God with us, the Son of God

God with us, the Son of God

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Matthew 1:23
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Here it is clear that Christ is God.

Did the Father create or "procreate" another "God?" If He did, This would mean it would be a SIN to worship Jesus, because it would violate the first commandment!!!

“Before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.” Isaiah 43:10
The first commandment says,
"Thou shalt have no other gods before Me."

“Jehovah, the eternal, self-existent, uncreated One, Himself the Source and Sustainer of all, is alone entitled to supreme reverence and worship. Man is forbidden to give to any other object the first place in his affections or his service. Whatever we cherish that tends to lessen our love for God or to interfere with the service due Him, of that do we make a god.” Patriarch’s and Prophets p. 305

Christ was not brought into existence, rather He ALWAYS existed as one with the Father.
“Christ is the pre-existent, self-existent Son of God.... In speaking of his pre-existence, Christ carries the mind back through dateless ages. He assures us that there never was a time when He was not in close fellowship with the eternal God. He to whose voice the Jews were then listening had been with God as one brought up with Him.”--Signs of the Times, Aug. 29, 1900.

Q. What did this term Son of God mean in the mind of the Jews?

A.“ Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.”(Joh 5:18 AV)

“ Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:”(Php 2:6 AV)

In the resurrection men that are saved are equal to angels.“ Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.”(Lu 20:36 AV) Jesus was not equal to the angels He was equal to God.

“He was equal with God, infinite and omnipotent.... He is the eternal, self-existent Son.”--Manuscript 101, 1897.

“4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. 5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? 6 And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. 7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. 8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.”(Heb 1:4-8 AV).

The above verse said,“let all the angels of God worship him.” This would be blaspheme if Christ was not YHVH (Jehovah).“ Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”(Mt 4:10 AV) The Father told all the angels to worship Christ because He was equal to Himself and was,“the Lord thy God” who only was to be worshipped.

It is not permitted to worship angels “ Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,”(Col 2:18 AV).

“ And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”(Re 19:10 AV)

“8 And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things. 9 Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.”(Re 22:8-9 AV)

It is not permitted to worship the likeness of anything God has created. The second commandment forbids this. The Bible condemns in clear language those who,“ Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.”(Ro 1:25 AV)

For any creature to claim the right to be worshipped is blaspheme. In fact the Jews falsely accused Jesus of this.“ The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.”(Joh 10:33 AV) Notice these scriptures that show Jesus was worshipped.

Mt 2:11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

Mt 8:2 And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

Mt 9:18 While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.

Mt 14:33 Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

Mt 15:25 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.

Mt 28:9 And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.

Mt 28:17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.

Mr 5:6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,

Lu 24:52 And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:

Joh 9:38 And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.

Re 5:14 And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.

“ Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”(Mt 4:10 AV)

Let's Review...

If Jesus were not “the eternal, self-existent Son”—(Manuscript 101, 1897), and If Jesus was not “Jehovah, the eternal, self-existent, uncreated One,” it would be blasphemy to worship Jesus just as much as it is blaspheme to worship any other man.“Jehovah, the eternal, self-existent, uncreated One, Himself the Source and Sustainer of all, is alone entitled to supreme reverence and worship.”

“The Lord Jesus Christ, the divine Son of God, existed from eternity, a distinct person, yet one with the Father. He was the surpassing glory of heaven. He was the commander of the heavenly intelligences, and the adoring homage of the angels was received by him as his right. This was no robbery of God.”--The Review and Herald, April 5, 1906, p. 8.

It seems impossible for me to find anything in your article that I could not agree with you on, unless it be why do you present it the way you do? This study will make Christ more precious to anyone with a personal relationship to Him, however there might be some who do not accept Ellen White as an authority in these matters.

My question then would  be, Are you able to present the same points based on Scripture?

Ellen White states that the acceptance of the Spirit of Prophecy is not to be used as a prerequisite to membership/fellowship in the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

I accept this, but what do I do with a Brother who seems reluctant? Is he still my brother in Christ?

I have another article more heavily based on Scripture, I will look for it...
As for the other question, do you consider Paul and Peter to be your brother in Christ......there is your answer.....

Looking forward to seeing that other article of yours.

Your reference to Peter and Paul is not quite clear to me. Perhaps it will be later on? Would that "brother" I referred to be on level with Peter and Paul? How?

Paul had to have a 'direct intervention' on the road to Damascus before he could believe and become a 'brother'....Peter was as hard headed as they come and had to be shown his flaws by Christ himself in order to humble himself to be a 'brother'. Just because a brother seems reluctant, or doubtful, or self-centered, you cant judge the outcome. Remember, many of the 12 disciples had these same characteristics before they were shown the way, but only one resisted to the point of rejection and betrayal.

Here is the other article which I have persmission to quote/use from David M. Curtis, Loud Cry Ministry.....

....“Before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.” Isaiah 43:10

“Arian. [Arianus L.] Of or pertaining Arius or his doctrines, esp. the doctrine that Christ was not the eternal Son of God, nor of the same substance. –An adherent of these doctrines—Arianism, n.” Webster’s New Collegiate Dictionary 1959 edition.

“Arianism, is the name given to the religious beliefs taught by the heretic Arius (250?-336?) This powerful heresy denied the divinity of Christ and regarded Him as merely a superior creature. . . .Arianism continued to be a religious force until the end of the 700’s especially among barbarian tribes.” World Book Encyclopedia 1962 edition, Article on Arianism.

Today the doctrine of Arianism is becoming a subject of deep interest. This doctrine which has ancient roots teaches that at some point in eternity past Jesus Christ the Son of God was “brought forth” (Proverbs 8:25) into existence by YHVH the self-existent One we call Abba Father. Arianism claims that Christ did not exist prior to this. This explains to the mind of the Arian believer the term “only begotten” and “Son of God.” In this article we are going to be examining these claims on the basis of Holy Scripture and also using much from my favorite author E.G. White.

We must allow “it is written” to interpret scripture not human speculations concerning such terms as the “only begotten” and “Son of God.” For no “scripture is of any private interpretation.” 2 Peter 1:20. The Arian minded person abstracts from the term “only begotten” that Christ came in to existence. This is based on the implication that all beings are conceived and born into existence due to our finite understanding. Did Christ have an origin, was His life conceived and born into existence? Or is His Life Divine?

“Jesus declared, "I am the resurrection, and the life." In Christ is life, original, unborrowed, underived. "He that hath the Son hath life." The divinity of Christ is the believer's assurance of eternal life.” --The Desire of Ages, p. 530.

If we deny the self-existent “original, unborrowed, underived “ divine life of Christ, we deny that He is “the way the truth and the Life” and cast off the believers ONLY “assurance of eternal life.” Only if Christ has with in Himself eternal life can He impart this to His believers. Brothers and Sisters this idea is a matter of life and death to the one who accepts it or rejects it. Accepting Arian beliefs will cost your soul eternal life. For this purpose I make no apologies in making a candid study into this with plain language about how dangerous this teaching really is. Arianism teaches “another Jesus,” and teaches “another gospel.”

“8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.” (Ga 1:8-9 AV)

“ For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.” (2Co 11:4 AV)

Now it would be unfair of me to make such broad and far-reaching declarations with out giving ample evidence to support these conclusions. Through out this article such evidence is offered. I would not have the reader misunderstand anything I am stating. Ample light is given to present that if one denies that Jesus Christ is the “self-existent One” he is in fact rejecting the “YHVH” (Jehovah) of the whole Bible. YHVH or Jehovah means literally, “the self-Existent or Eternal” Strong’s Concordance Hebrew #3068.

Let’s reiterate that ALL scripture must be interpreted by other scripture not by the mind of man. With this thought let’s begin by examining the word “only begotten.”

Q. What does the word “only begotten” literally mean in the original Greek?

A. “3439 monogenes mon-og-en-ace’

from 3441 and 1096; TDNT-4:737,606; adj

AV-only begotten 6, only 2, only child 1; 9

1) single of its kind, only
1a) used of only sons or daughters (viewed in relation to their parents)
1b) used of Christ, denotes the only begotten son of God” Strong’s Concordance.

The term “only begotten” comes from the Greek “monogenes” from which you have these two words 3441“mono” and 1096“genes.” Most are familiar with the term mono and stereo. Monotone is a single voice pitch. Genes are the structure of DNA. Hence “only begotten” or “only born” is a correct translation.

Q. Does the term “only begotten” (monogenes) refer to anyone besides Christ?

A. “17 By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, 18 Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called:” (Heb 11:17-18 AV)

Note: Isaac was the second son born to Abraham. Ishmael was born 14 years earlier. Isaac was the only offspring of Abraham to whom the promised “seed, which is Christ” (Galatians 3:16) was to one day be born, 42 generations later. Matthew 1:1-17.

Q. When was Isaac “begotten” according to Scripture?

A. “ Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren;” (Mt 1:2 AV)

Note: Isaac was begotten when he was conceived in Sarah’s womb and born to Abraham.

Q. When was Jesus “begotten” according to scripture (not private interpretation)?

“ And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.” (Mt 1:16 AV)

“ And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,” (Lu 3:23 AV)

“ Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.” (Mt 1:18 AV)

“ And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” (Mt 1:21 AV)

Note: Mary shall “bring forth a son,” who was “Emmanuel” God with us. Jesus was begotten or conceived in the womb of Mary “by the Holy Ghost.” Jesus was over the age of 30 when He spoke John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Please notice Christ was GIVEN just over 30 years before this statement was spoken when he was conceived (or begotten) in Mary’s virgin womb. I hope my Aryan thinking friends understand that last sentence. John 3:16 is speaking in the PAST TENSE of an event that happened just 30 years before. Let’s notice again the words, “Shall bring forth” as found in verse 21.

“ Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” (Mt 1:23 AV)

Q. Does the term “begotten” have any other meaning in connection to Christ?

A. “ I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.” (Ps 2:7 AV)

“ For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?” (Heb 1:5 AV)

Q. What EXACT DAY in history is this event referring to of which the Father says, “Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? (Heb 1:5 AV)”

A. “33 God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. 34 And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David.” (Ac 13:33-34 AV)

The prophecy of Psalms 2:7 according to the inspired interpretation of Scripture is referring to the resurrection of Jesus Christ. There are only two scriptural events in which Christ was “begotten.” Once in Mary’s virgin womb just as Abraham begat Isaac and Isaac begat Jacob and so on. The second time He was “begotten” was from the tomb.

Through Mary’s sinful flesh Christ took on him the nature of Abraham and His offspring, and was thus the “son of man.” He was not the child of Joseph. He was the Son of God. The Holy Spirit immaculately conceived Christ in Mary’s virgin womb, yet He was King of all Heaven. Thus by the Holy Ghost in the virgin Mary’s womb Jesus was born (begotten) as the Son of God. Through Mary’s sinful flesh Jesus was born the son of man. Through the Holy Ghost He was the Son of God.

Q. What did this term Son of God mean in the mind of the Jews?

A. “ Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.” (Joh 5:18 AV)

“ Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:” (Php 2:6 AV)

In the resurrection men that are saved are equal to angels. “ Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.” (Lu 20:36 AV) Jesus was not equal to the angels He was equal to God........

Who was the instrument in eliminating the Arian heretical doctrine in the early church? With what results? How has this affected Seventh-day Adventist doctrine? Did some of the SDA pioneers follow the Arian heresy?
