Alex, I support what you are doing. The silent give abusers a free pass. My abuser was dead long before I was old enough to provide accountability, but were he alive today, I would be objecting to his fitness for church office and insisting that he be brought before a court of law, if for no other reason than it would limit his access to other children. We in the church are notoriously inconsistent in holding offenders accountable. All they have to do is be charming, charismatic and effective in "the work" and we overlook or refuse to believe. So the law has to take up where we fail.
It is unfortunate when an institution is caught in the crossfire, but in this case, the institution has been actively shielding the perpetrator, thus it shares in the responsibility, in my opinion.
