The church is the community of believers who confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.

Why do we need this "community"?

It's harder to keep a sense of purpose in isolation.

Could it not be easier to be saved in total isolation?

John the Baptist was isolated.

But it looks like he always had an audience because they cane out into the desert to meet him there.

Does the apostle John teach that keeping the commandments means that we are in the right relationship with our brothers and disters in the faith?

I agree with this statement as it is written. The Church is not an organization, it is not a set of doctrines and dogma, it is "the community of believers who confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour." With that in mind, what is the purpose of the organizations who call themselves "the church" and what is their use and benefit to the community of believers?

Coincidentally Stephen Terry wrote on that subject on the ssnet.org blog.

Hmm, the true church, is the sifter of ones own "vanities" and "priorities" and where the fine wheat sifts through. The "vanities" and "priorities of ones own opinions and lifestyles" are overflowing the sifter. and they are called the "chaff".  The church is God's purpose for man's ignorance.
