John C. Manly--Named one of California’s “Top 100 Attorneys” by the Los Angeles Daily Journal...

John’s recent work in Delaware representing more than 75 victims of child sexual abuse has led to the exposure of numerous clerics and employees who, despite credible allegations and/or confessions, were allowed to continue working with children.

Really interesting.

Don't argue, Snoopy, just learn.  Sometimes these things are not common knowledge, but there is no good reason why they sould not be, other than the person(s) has not encountered this type of situation before. Sexual and physical abuse are always companied by emotional and mental abuse.  they always have to keep the victim in a mind set to allow the abuse that is to come.  This always includes the tearing down of one's self image, which we know leads to all types of other unforntunate behaviors.

My point was that it would be all to easy for the DA to say that the reason the victim even turned to a life of crime, was because of the abuse.  It is not a hard case to prove.  That was my only point.  :-)

Ok, Snoop, let's go back to Abuse 101.....................The victim turned to a life of crime(be that theft,  robbery to get drugs, assault, .........you name it) after being abused by TS.  This is a typical text book response to abuse.  If I know that, and it really is common knowledge, I don't believe a competent attorney would even go down that path.  This would be too easily transferred to a plus for the DA.  A good expert witnes on the psychology of abuse, etc.  In this type of case, it will be more quickly associated with the abuse, the one's credibility.  Got it?  But hey, those are just my thoughts.

I have neither the desire, inclination or energy to argue with you about this Diane.  I never took "Abuse 101".  I was simply trying to make the point that I don't think the young man does have a criminal record.  That's all.  Period.

Obviously you missed my entire point, which is fine.  I give up.

No, I got your point. If he has a criminal record, then his crediblity is at risk in the entire statement being truthful in regards to being molested.

I was just giving you another point.  If it is proven that his criminal activity began after being molested, the DA can use it as being a result of the molestation.  That won't help TS one little bit.  Just show that he completely wrecked the life of this young man.

I guess I must have missed something, but are there 2 trials going on- one civil and 1 felony? I mean the DA is handling the molestation charges right? and John Manley is handling a separate civil trial?

I have another question- don't churches normally do a background check on new pastors and other employees? Or do they just take other people's word for their good background?  What a joke  I am not laughing at any of you, because in my old Baptist church, this is what happened to us.  The preacher that came to us, had come with such a glowing recommendation , should have been the 1st thing the pastoral committee noticed.
After we got him, we found out why- they could hardly wait to get rid of him  That's why they said he was so GREAT! Seems the church before theirs had done the same thing and they could hardly wait to get rid of him ;D

You are correct the DA is handling the molestation charge.  Manly has been retained by one of the victims for a possible civil suit.

John C. Manly--Named one of California’s “Top 100 Attorneys” by the Los Angeles Daily Journal, and Orange County's most "Buzzworthy" attorney by Orange Coast Magazine, John C. Manly is the nation's leading attorney in the civil protection of victims of childhood sexual abuse.??

For the past fifteen years, John has been a leading civil authority on the Clergy Abuse Crisis in the United States and abroad. After winning a record settlement against the Diocese of Orange for his first clergy abuse client, John has built a powerful team of consultants and experts that is unmatched worldwide. Now representing more than 500 clients in numerous states, territories, and foreign countries, Manly and his team have been prominently featured in print and on broadcast news in the U.S. and abroad for their work to expose perpetrators and the men and women who cover up for them.
John and his team have won some of the largest monetary civil awards – in trial and settlement - for men and women who were sexually abused as children. The reason for their unrivaled success resides in their deep intrinsic knowledge in the institutions that have harbored sex offenders, including the Catholic Church.

In the past few years, John and his team have represented more than 150 clergy sexual abuse victims in California, including clients in the recent $100 million settlement against the Diocese of Orange, the $660 million settlement against the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, and the $150 million settlement against the Diocese of San Diego. In Alaska, John has represented approximately 300 Alaska Native victims in a $50 million settlement against the Jesuit Order as well as victims in the Diocese of Fairbanks and in new cases against the Jesuits. ??

John’s recent work in Delaware representing more than 75 victims of child sexual abuse has led to the exposure of numerous clerics and employees who, despite credible allegations and/or confessions, were allowed to continue working with children. ??He also represents clients in Connecticut, South Dakota and New York.

Now this is interesting!

Do you have a suggestion what can be done to save 3ABN and the connection to the church?

Wouldn't this also make 3ABN responsible?

This law firm indicates the church which hired Tommy Shelton is responsible as well. Should they have investigated if he had a clean record?

I'm wondering if the 3ABN "brand" is too tainted by now to be of any use to the church.

Really interesting.

I think this is what happened at 3ABN with Tommy Shelton and the children's music programing.

When people call the station to ask they have usually in the past been told it is all a lie. Some of them will be surprised now when they read about this in the national papers.

Yes, I have personally known people who heard the allegations explained but then said they "wanted to hear both sides" because they didn't want to believe the things about 3ABN.

Here is a case that the attorney John C. Manly won.  Seems to me the victim did a great job picking an attorney.

This was reported at the end of April so it is recent.

A notorious Irish pedophile priest who abused children for many years in America has been discovered helping out as a church deacon in Rotterdam under an assumed name and working a shelter for abused women and their children.

Father Oliver O'Grady served as a priest at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Lodi, California from 1971 to 1978. He later served at Church of the Presentation in Stockton, California, Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Turlock, California, St. Andrew's Parish in San Andreas, California, and St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hughson, California.

In 1993 he was convicted on four counts of "lewd and lascivious acts" on two minors, the brothers John and James Howard, and was sentenced to 14 years in prison. Attorney Jeff Anderson said the Howards were repeatedly molested between 1978 and 1991, from age three to 13. Anderson claimed church officials knew that O'Grady had abused children as early as 1976 and 1984 but had done nothing. Police had been informed of earlier charges and had declined to prosecute.

In 1998 a civil jury ordered the Catholic Diocese of Stockton to pay US$30 million in damages to the brothers. A judge later reduced the amount to $7 million.

O'Grady was paroled from prison in 2000 after serving only seven years, and went to Ireland after being deported from the United States.

He claimed to have been himself molested by a priest at the age of 10, and that he was involved in sexual abuse in his own family, both as perpetrator and victim. One of his victims was just nine months old.

The defrocked priest referred to himself as 'Brother Francis' in Rotterdam. He was thought to be living in Ireland but had recently disappeared. He was found by the Sunday Tribune newspaper.

The parishioners attending the Church of the Holy Heart, Christ Our Redeemer, had no knowledge about the man once described as one of the most dangerous pedophiles ever. The newspaper reported he was also working at a fast food restaurant where he helped organize children's parties.

He gained notoriety when the film "Deliver Us From Evil' was released about his case. It was when the documentary was released in Holland two weeks ago that he was recognized.

Parishioners told the Sunday Tribune he was "acting as a church deacon, helping the priest with the sacraments and organising the choir singing. On one occasion, when the priest was late, the defrocked cleric celebrated the mass until he arrived."

Fr Avin Kunnekkadan, on said he was unaware of O'Grady's criminal past.

"I did not know about his background. I did not know about his past at all," he said this weekend. An announcement was made at the church last week informing the congregation about O'Grady's criminal past.

Last week, O'Grady was also served with a civil action at his Dublin hostel by Californian attorneys Manly, McGuire & Stewart.

The firm specialises in clerical sex abuse cases and represents several of O'Grady's victims who are taking civil actions against him
