Proffaber tosses around facts that are irrefutably false.

He likes to comment on legal issues. Whether he is or not, this gives the impression that he is Walt Thompson's son, Greg, who has since the scandal broke open become a paralegal.

I am going to send a copy of the "letter from Tommy" to Brother and Sister Wood. They may not respond, since the chance of trial is still  up in the air. I would like to get their side of the story. I will let you know what they say, if anything.

Before I send this letter to the Woods, when was this "letter written"???? (Tommy's letter about the Woods)I want as much information as I can have when I write them. this is really important to me. As I said on the other site, after my experience- maybe I can't trust anyone, anymore. :'(

It appears to have been written in early February 2007. That's a fairly close date, based on what I recall.

Looks like I received it on February 17:

-------- Original Message --------
Subject:    Tommy: Two questions about your open letter.
Date:    Sun, 18 Feb 2007 11:58:27 -0600
From:    Bob
To:    Tommy Shelton
CC:    Mollie Steenson, Pastor Lomacang, Fallible Human Being, Joe Smith, Danny Shelton, Elder Ken Denslow, Walt Thompson

Hello Tommy.

Last night someone forwarded to me your open letter to the Dunn Loring congregation. If there is any chance that this letter is not genuine, please let me know at your earliest convenience.

I haven't read it in its entirety yet, and will look forward to hopefully finding some information in it that will put things in a drastically different light. My only regret is that Danny did not send me anything along these lines in November as requested, as perhaps it could have prevented some misunderstanding, if there really have been any misunderstandings.

Here are two things that I did notice that caused me a little concern. You wrote (assuming that this letter is really genuine):

Quote
"In addition, because of the pressure (that your pastor hoped for, by his own admission) from the scandalizing on the internet, it was necessary for me to leave my job because of the stress to my heart due to constant high blood pressure."

And yet, contrary to the above, you and Danny on the air on New Year's Eve said that your health problems and your retirement were due to:

  • Your tremendous schedule.
  • Weekend traveling.
  • Long commuting.
  • And above everything else, a ferry.

Question: Are you admitting in your open letter that both you and Danny lied on the air as to the real reason you were retiring three months early from 3ABN, or do you have a way to explain this apparent discrepancy?

You also wrote:

Quote
"These men are not 'ecclesiastical investigators' for the Seventh Day Adventist.  They hold no official position, and have no authority in the Seventh Day Adventist Church to investigate anything or anybody. By next week I will have in hand an official statement from the Illinois Conference President of SDA, stating that these men do not work for the Seventh-Day-Adventist church and were not authorized to investigate anyone."

Question: Isn't this a tad bit dishonest, given the facts that:

  • It was an Adventist church pastor or administrator that got the 2003 Glenn Dryden letter to Gailon Joy for him to look at on August 15, 2006, after which he launched his investigation?
  • It was an NAD or GC officer that arranged for the 3ABN board to ask ASI to review the various allegations and evidence uncovered by Gailon against Danny Shelton et. al., including the allegations raised in Glenn Dryden's 2003 letter?
  • Some of the individuals involved in the "investigation" are retired pastors/administrators, and/or other individuals who currently hold credentials issued by the denomination?

It just seems like your statement may be splitting hairs and giving a distorted picture of what is really going on. While Gailon wasn't officially authorized to investigate, he was unofficially asked to investigate, etc. And I find it difficult to believe that a man like Elder Denslow would be helping to distort the picture of what has been going on.

I trust that I will not have to wait nearly three months to receive an open letter from an anonymous person that answers these simple questions.

Bob

Fallible human Being was the user name of Walt Thompson's son, Greg Thompson, who Walt allegedly thought we had caused to lose his teaching job for something he told a student 13 years or so before. Never did find out what that was about.

Joe Smith was the user name of Ronnie Shelton, or his wife.

Really, given the facts brought out in this email, it was totally inexcusable for Danny, 3ABN, and the board members to sue Gailon and myself. We gave them every opportunity possible to explain how there had been misunderstandings regarding the Sheltons' corruption, and they refused to explain anything. Shutting us up, smashing us, destroying us, and deception was all they were interested in.

The Good Book says that he who has showed no mercy will receive no mercy. As in the providence of God the lawyers press their demands at this time, what sort of mercy might this bunch receive?

mrst53, I have found it is better to place ones trust in God alone... With that said, search out the facts for yourself, find who is consistant in what they claim and as further light shines upon the evidence, look at what they have said in the past concerning the same issues and what they continue to claim. In the case of Tommy Shelton, when they continue trying to prove that Tommy is innocent, when he has already plead guilty, appears to be an argument contradicting the current light on the subject. If you want to compare what others, including myself, have written about Tommy in the past, read on BSDA. Obviously, those who stated that Tommy had sexual problems with boys and young men appear to be in agreement with Tommy's own profession in a court of law. The one testimony that is consistently in agreement with Tommy's plea is that of his victims...

Place your trust in God and use the intelligence He has given you to choose whom you are willing to believe. Tommy and his victims or those who are defending him?

Sister,
Only God truly knows someone deep down, no matter what kind of "front" they put on. As I asked on the other site, "Why would any adult (male, especially) come forth after all these years, to put themselves up for ridicule and rebuke from the world, unless it was true?" Even my husband doesn't believe the victims are lying. He says males would just not come forth, unless it was true.

mrst53,

I agree with your husband. I believe when Tommy plead guilty, he was finally telling the truth. I believe the testimony of Tommy's victims. I believe there are probably many more victims... Unless someone has been the victim of a sexual predator, they can not imagine the shame and the pain that a victim suffers. These young men who have come forward deserve our support and prayers, not the callus rebuke of misguided individuals who have been verbally abusing the victims and championing the abuser.

Only God is worthy of our trust, but we can investigate and intelligently choose whom to believe. In the case of Tommy Shelton, I believe his victims.

I would not believe a word that those two pastors say!

Here are a few questions, I would like to see them answer.

1. Do they have any shame?
2. Are they sorry for believing Tommy and allowing him to be their predecessor?
3. Do they take responsibility, for allowing a child predator to prey on more children after it was abundantly clear they knew of his past?
4. Are they willing to submit their license to preach to their ministerial association?

He reminds me of a quote Ronald Reagan once made. He said, "Well, the trouble with our liberal friends is not that they are ignorant, but that they know so much that isn’t so."

Now THIS is priceless. On the other site, mrst is admonished by Penny and Cindy to "carefully consider" her motives beforer writing to Jenings and Gail Wood. Penny actually said this,
Quote
Listening may be one of the best ways to garner truth, but most people are so delighted at the sound of their voice, hearing their own thoughts and opinions being rendered or so thoroughly on the path of their agenda, that they don't take time to listen. Even when they are not talking, they often are not listening either...but rather thinking about what they will say next to press home their point.
Am I the only one who finds that absolutely hilarious? Do they even read what they write over there? That's exactly what all the defenders do on a daily basis!

I truly believe that if Tommy were to admit publicly what he did, ask forgiveness from the victims and all those he has misled over the years and then state that he deserves whatever punishment the court hands down, there would still be those over there that would be blaming the victims and saying there was some underlying reason why he said that. The stuff they're writing lately borders on insanity.

Guys,
I guess it's as hard for some of them to believe Tommy is guilty, as it is for me to believe that the Wood's hired Tommy knowing the formal allegations against him. I respect the Woods. But I am going to send the letter and I will even go talk to them if they ask me to. I am close enough to go. Maybe they will not even talk to me or they will ask me to wait until after the chance of a trial.

I know that both sites are pretty much against each other, so I would like to hear the Woods' side of this if I can.

Since they were the pastors leaving the church, I highly doubt that they DID hire Tommy. That would have been a decision for those left at the church. I know both the Woods. Not nearly as well as you know them of course, but they came to Ezra many times while Tommy was pastoring there. Is it possible that they recommended Tommy for the position? Absolutely. But, if they did, I don't think they would have unless they were TOTALLY convinced that there was absolutely NO truth to the allegations. They just don't strike me as being the type of people to deliberately set up a church that they had worked so hard to build over the years.

The only fault I see is that they did recommend a man whom they knew had some allegations in his past, but again, if they had known what has now come to light, I don't think they would have even considered him.
