Once again, Barack Obama proves he is not fit to serve as commander-in-chief to our armed forces. In a continuing despicable act, Obama is refusing to honor WWII veterans who fought for our nation in it’s darkest hours.

WASHINGTON — In a strongly worded message to Congress outlining its priorities for a military spending bill, the Obama administration today said it disapproved of including money for pensions for 26 elderly members of the World War II-era Alaska Territorial Guard.
The Guardsmen are among those assigned to protect Alaska from the Japanese during World War II.
….Sen. Lisa Murkowski, who along with Sen. Mark Begich, D-Alaska, sponsored the fix [to the pensions], called the administration move “deeply disappointing, bordering on insensitive.” The legislation honors 26 elderly Native people who are the few remaining survivors of a military unit that served the country with valor, Murkowski said.
“The administration’s justification, which is that the legislation will set the precedent of treating service as a state employee as federal service, defies logic and history,” she said in a statement. “Sixty-two years after the Territorial Guard was disbanded, the Obama administration minimizes the contribution of this gallant unit to America’s success in World War II by calling its service ’state service.’ “
This is beyond the pale, and just shows Obama’s continual disregard for what has made America the greatest nation on earth. To diminish these brave Alaska Natives as “state employees” is to diminish all of the brave men and women who served their nation in all sorts of ways during WWI.
For those that don’t know, the Japanese attacked and invaded Alaska’s Aleutian Islands at the same time the battle of Midway was about to take place. It was part diversion, part payback for Doolittle’s bombing of Tokyo.

This was a tragic bit of history for Alaskans, more of which you can read here and here.

The Alaska Territorial Guard (ATG) or Eskimo Scouts was a military reserve force component of the US Army, organized in 1942 in response to attacks on American soil in Hawaii and Alaska by Japan during World War II. The ATG operated until 1947. 6,368 volunteers who served without pay were enrolled from 107 communities throughout Alaska in addition to a paid staff of 21, according to an official roster.
The ATG brought together for the first time into a joint effort members of these ethnic groups: Aleut, Athabaskan, European American, Inupiaq, Haida, Tlingit, Tsimshian, Yupik, and most likely others. In later years, all members of some native units scored expert sharpshooter rankings. Among the 27 or more women members were at least one whose riflery skills exceeded the men. The ages of members at enrollment ranged from 80 years old to as young as twelve. (both extremes occurring mostly in sparsely populated areas)
Two things stick out in my mind. One, these 6,368 Alaskan Territorial Guards, of which the 26 men being denied by Barack Obama are part of, served their nation during war time, for NO PAY.
Second, the situation was so dire that old men and children all pitched in.

In 2000, largely due to efforts by former Alaskan Senator Ted Stevens, a bill was signed into law ordering the Secretary of Defense to issue Honorable Discharges to all members of the Alaska Territorial Guard. The bill was intended to repay the debt of honor we as a nation owe these people, these Americans, and provided many of the surviving members (now in their 80’s and many living far below the poverty line) with retirement pay and survivor’s benefits and medial care.
However history views Ted Stevens it must be noted that he was largely responsible for righting a dishonorable and inexcusable injustice. However, the story of the ATG doesn’t end there – most of the elderly surviving members of the ATG live in remote and inaccessible locations. Finding them was long and difficult.
In 2003 Colonel Bob Goodman USA(ret), undertook the effort to find and assist the remaining members of the ATG, at first funded by the state and later out of his own pocket. So far he and his people have located over 150 former members of the ATG, and they estimate there are several hundred more – and they continue their efforts to this very day.
Many of those located in the last five years have since died of old age. For those who remain, the benefits provided aren’t much, some medical care and a couple hundred dollars a month, but for folks who now live far below the poverty line in villages where gasoline costs more than $10 per gallon – those benefits mean the difference between life and death.
Those benefits, that mere pittance in retirement pay, would seem to be the least we can do for those forgotten veterans of that long ago conflict.
It would seem to be the very least we could do.
But it’s not.
It turns out we could actually do less.
It turns out that the Army could suddenly decide, say yesterday in fact, to reinterpret the law to read that these men and women of the Alaska Territorial Guard, these men and woman who came to defend our nation in its time of need, these men and women who fought bravely for a flag not even their own, who built the roads and the airfields and the hospitals and the bridges and who rescued downed airmen and stranded sailors and braved the cold and the isolation and the horror of war – these men and women – are not, in fact, entitled to even that small effort.
That’s right. The Army has decided to cut off retirement pay for the twenty-six surviving members of the ATG. Twenty-six, and applications from thirty-seven more identified by Colonel Bob Goodwin and his people have been suspended. Apparently we can not afford to take care of even this small handful of people, this small handful of veterans, this small handful of Alaskans, this small handful of Americans.
However, in a good hearted move, the Army will not seek to recoup past payments.
Big of them, wouldn’t you say?
It goes without saying that this issue has been boiling for some time. Senator Stevens indeed had worked to get these brave WWII veterans, these brave Native Americans, their due.
In what some might say was odd timing, or Chicago style politics, just two days after Barack Obama had taken the Oath of Office as Commander-In-Chief, ABC News reported:
The Army has decided to cut off retirement pay for veterans of a largely Native militia formed to guard the territory of Alaska from the threat of Japanese attack during World War II.
The change means 26 surviving members of the Alaska Territorial Guard — most in their 80s and long retired — will lose as much as $557 in monthly retirement pay, a state veterans officer said Thursday. The payments end Feb. 1.
Applications for retirement pay from 37 others have been suspended.
The state is pursuing a remedy for “these brave Alaskans, who did so much for the cause of freedom during a time of great national peril,” Gov. Sarah Palin said.
The action comes almost a decade after Congress passed a law qualifying time served in the unpaid guard as active federal service. The Army agreed in 2004 to grant official military discharge certificates to members or their survivors.
An Army official said the law was misinterpreted. The law applies to military benefits, including medical benefits, but not retirement pay, said Lt. Col. Richard McNorton, with the Army’s human resources command in Alexandria, Va.
“The focus is to follow the law,” he said. “We can’t choose whether to follow the law.”
The Army doesn’t intend to seek to recoup past pay, he said.
About 300 members are still living from the original 6,600-member unit called up from 1942 to 1947 to scout patrols, build military airstrips and perform other duties. But only a fraction had enough other military service to reach the 20-year requirement for retirement pay.
Among those who did is 88-year-old Paul Kiunya in the western Alaska village of Kipnuk. Kiunya was 16 when he joined the territorial guard and worked in communications, reporting by radio any unusual noises or the direction of aircraft, including some Japanese planes he spotted.
“We did not get one cent being in the territorial guard,” he said. “And we worked hard.”
Kiunya — who later put in 22 years in the National Guard and another decade in the Guard reserves — will lose more than $358 a month in his retirement package because of the Army’s decision. With gasoline in his village at almost $10 a gallon, that’s a huge amount to lose.
For her part, Governor Sarah Palin, in her role as Commander-in-Chief of the Alaska Defense Force, the modern day equivalent to the Territorial Guard, signed SB 89 which funded, these pensions until 2010.
For those that don’t know, the Alaska Defense Force is a federally recognized state militia, that trains as an auxiliary police force, as well as a military defense force, and is part of Homeland Security’s readiness plan, and is under the command of the Governor of Alaska.

This situation is incredibly disturbing. All indications are these brave WWII veterans served Alaska and the nation with honor. To purposely cut these aged men off, in the twilight of their lives, goes against everything America stands for. In fact, as this cuts off not only a substantial part of their paycheck, but other benefits, such as medical, one might even say this is sort of a death panel, especially knowing that winter is coming, and heating fuel is quite expensive in Alaska.
I can’t speculate what makes Barack Obama such a heartless and cruel man. I do know that once again, Obama’s radical, communist upbringing has shown it’s self front and center. Obama must really hate America, and Americans to pull a stunt like this.
Obama should be ashamed of himself, but I fear that is an emotion he is incapable of.

You have two families: "Joe Legal" and "Jose Illegal". Both families have two parents, two children, and live in California.

Joe Legal works in construction, has a Social Security Number and makes $25.00 per hour with taxes deducted.

Jose Illegal also works in construction, has NO Social Security Number, and gets paid $15.00 cash "under the table".

Ready? Now pay attention.

Congressional Research Agency Confirms Illegal Aliens Will Get Health Benefits Under House Bill
 
Last Tuesday, the Congressional Research Service (CRS), which is the non-partisan "research arm"
of the United States Congress, issued a report that concludes that illegal aliens will be able to
 receive benefits under the House health care bill (H.R. 3200) through two major loopholes.
 (See CRS Report and FAIR Press Release, August 26, 2009).
According to its own website, CRS is a legislative branch agency that provides Congress with
"policy and legal analysis" that is authoritative, objective and accurate.  (CRS website). 
The latest CRS report validates what FAIR has been saying for the past month and a half — that
illegal aliens will be able to receive taxpayer-funded health benefits under the House health
care bill.  (See FAIR's Legislative Updates, July 20, 2009; July 27, 2009 and August 3, 2009).
The House bill creates an "exchange" and "all individuals," which would include illegal aliens,
are eligible to participate in the exchange.  Anyone who participates in the exchange, and does
 not otherwise have health insurance, can either enroll in the public option plan created by the
 House bill or enroll in a private insurance plan.  Accordingly, the first loophole that provides
 illegal aliens with health insurance is the ability for illegal aliens to freely enroll in the
taxpayer-subsidized public option.  According to CRS, "H.R. 3200 does not contain any restrictions
 on non-citizens — whether legally or illegally present, or in the United States temporarily or
permanently — from participating in the Exchange."  (CRS Report).  Accordingly, illegal aliens can
enroll in the public option, courtesy of the American taxpayers, to meet their health insurance needs
.  (See CNN.com, August 2009).
 
The second major loophole is the failure to require any meaningful verification procedure for
 taxpayer-subsidized insurance credits. Under the House bill, individuals who buy private insurance
 through the Exchange may receive an affordability credit to offset the cost of insurance.  This
 credit is ostensibly limited to individuals lawfully present in the U.S., but CRS (like FAIR) notes
 the complete absence of any provision in the House bill that requires verification of eligibility
for the affordability credits.  Without such a mechanism, there is nothing in the bill that will
 prevent illegal aliens from receiving this taxpayer subsidy to buy private health insurance.
These conclusions by CRS should eliminate any remaining doubt about whether illegal aliens will
 receive health benefits under the bill.  As a result of this report, President Obama can no longer
characterize the concerns about the illegal alien health care loophole under the bill as
 "misinformation."  (See FAIR's Legislative Update, August 24, 2009 and FAIR's Health Care Podcast,
 August 24, 2009).  In addition, Members of Congress can no longer claim the bill prevents coverage
 for illegal aliens, and the media can no longer suggest this concern is a "myth."  (See FAIR's House

Today, if illegal aliens need health care, they go to the local Emergency Room at the local hospital.   

When the hospital bills don't get paid, the costs are borne by the rest of the community in the form of higher health insurance premiums and government subsidies to the local hospital to make up the loss.  So, illegals already get health care.  It's been that way for many years.   

Years ago, I recall seeing illegal aliens going into the mansions to clean, cook and tend the rose bushes.  These were homes owned by wealthy Republicans.   

Republicans have controlled the White House and Congress, too, in the recent past.  Why weren't any of these problems dealt with then?  Why is it only a problem now? Because a Democrat is in the White House?

I also think subjecting thousands of Americans to harm's way in Iraq based on mistaken intelligence is just as criminal as anything a President can do.   So many American soldiers -- thousands -- now have missing limbs, brain damage, or are dead.  All for mistaken intelligence reports used by a Republican president who was one level above a moron.  And that's being gracious to him.

How despicable is that?

Frankly,  I don't think the Republicans have an answer for anything, or they would have implemented their plans when they controlled Congress and the White House.

Beyond all that,  I think Adventism, and other "isms", will cripple their organizations by getting too steeply involved in politics.  I don't agree with a lot of what the Religious Liberty Department of the Adventist Church is doing.  I don't see their activities as being particularly religious and I don't see much regard for liberty.  It seems to be an Adventist agency more attuned to aligning the Adventist Church with the Republican Party, with a shallow, self-serving agenda, as you would expect with the Mormons.  I think politics is a wonderful way to cripple the Adventist Church in the long run and to make it as irrelevant as the Mormons are with their organization.

Lastly, if religious denominations are going to go heavily into politics, as they are, and become little more than political action committees, they should be paying taxes, rather than hiding behind tax exemptions under the skirt of religiosity.

Imagine how much money the United States could raise if all of the cathedrals, churches, temples, meeting houses, conference offices, rectories, parsonages, monasteries, convents, and religious retreats paid their fair share of the taxes.  I would vote for that.

I think the indoctrination proffered by conservative Christianity -- that Jesus was more closely related to Republican ideals than Democratic ideals -- is one of the biggest sacrileges visited upon the American people to date.  I, for one, have no plans to join anything that sounds like "Seventh-day Republicans."  I like what Jimmy Carter (D) has been doing with Habitat for Humanity.  I favor Al Gore's (D) educational sermons about the environment,  I note that Carter and Gore have both received Nobel Prizes for their efforts.  In other words,  I don't see Democrats as instruments of Satan. 

However, I do read these comments. And, it is interesting to consider differing points of view.  I would be remiss, however, if I just let them pass as though I have acquiesced to the conservative, Republican point of view.

As for nationalized health care Canada has it.  I have yet to visit Canada and see all the dead Canadians lying in the streets.  Nor, do I see sick Canadians streaming across the border for health care in the U.S.  The Canadians are happy with their system and it works well for them.    All in all, we Americans pay much more for health care and get much less in return.

Hmmm, I see there are a plenty of people that must feel if you are into religion that it gives you the honor of setting back and letting someone else fight and die for you and your freedom so you don't have to go to war. Somebody else can do it and because of being a conscientious objector they can die for you too.

Think how you want --and I THANK THOSE THAT FOUGHT FOR MY CONTINUED FREEDOM SO FAR. SOME OF THOSE THAT GAVE THEIR ALL WILL BE IN THE GATES BEFORE THOSE THAT ONLY WORRIED FOR THEIR OWN SALVATION AND LIFE no matter what religion.

Those that protect their own self, live for self, and hide behind religion to object to the way Americans fought for freedom need to move to or stay in their own country. I am an American and watched the parades when world war 2 many uncles and fathers veterans came home. Have you forgotten that there was war in heaven, war on earth where God ordered it???

and now where is the "ONE" at right now while all this termoil is going on with the UN visitors making idiots of us while we listen to their idiot nonsense. or is it so idiot that we do not believe their agenda for us coming head on?? "Why Ob's under the haystack fast asleep" or is it on a Olympics trip for ole Chicago town where they just murdered in the streets a poor innocent straight a student who tried to help. Seems he just can't get his priority right. Maybe he should have had some sense to clean up the town first before the world saw the worst town in America. (if he had the time from playing gulf (at one of the worse times in history (Iran) or guts to do it.)

I feel GW did what he believed best for what he was told and the blame is not on all him as the Dem's voted for it too as they saw the same pictures that Americans saw of the oppression and slaughter of the people by Saddam, his sons and all. Why did they not act before on the African slaughter years before? I suppose it was OK for Bushes and the Clinton's to just let that go down? So as I see it....it was not!! Therefore at least Saddam was stopped. I am looking at humanity in suffering no matter who it was.

I do not want to hear of Jimmy Carter. I look at him as a good ole farmer that should have stayed a good ole farmer. He was not president material. He is a man that loves God I am sure but in order to be free a nation just does not keep getting slapped and slapped in the face and then tell them that Jesus loves them so they won't abuse us. If they do we are done as a nation and Obama has given the signal of his naiveness and weak abilities. These countries led by the "enemy" are hungry to devour. So far, I do not as just one opinion for myself --do not see strength in Obama of protection of the American way of John Kennedy or Reagan but to hand over eventually "all power to the beast" for the "new world order" and him being the "one world leader" he is showing all signs and gives impressions of his "great arrogance" of self proclaimed ability and dictoral lingo with the accent to go with it.

The American people are now seeing "all the talk was just talk" they are turning and looking. Lets see what happens now!  Is it tooooo late??There might just be enough of us oldies that remember the constitution as it was and how it came yet knowing eventually we will all give it up to the "beast". ...and you must remember this is an Advent place to air Adventist talk...

One thing I do agree on is last statement since now with the most disgusting thing like what has been on here about how they have used the money from the pews and with proof of it ...your right. If we would have had the "fair tax" DS would have had to pay tax on all his luxury's instead of hiding most what was spent or in hidden places.   That is what has some up in the air on Advent Talk. Then you have the sympathizers that protect their   feed.

I am an SDA member but also a member of America and the land that was given for freedom and so yes all Christians should be good stewards of the gift of freedom and made aware of what is going on and by the way in case their seems to be some doubt in who is in control of this earths environment it is not Al Gore and his stupidness.

Grasshopper, you are very wise.  Firstly, I don't know why it does not sink in that we are already paying for the healthcare of illegals and those without medical insurance in the most costly fashion by through the emergency rooms, and state and/or dcounty subsidized programs.  Not sure why we all don't understand that.  It would cost much less to allow them some insurance so they can go to the Dr. for regular checkups and preventive care before becoming critical and the costs of critical care...........OR we can just let them stay sick, and depending on their illness, before they die infect to whole of thier community.......they are here now, what is it you propose that we do?

Secondly, AMEN!!! It was all those big companies who were getting all those tax breaks and concessions to make America "business friendly", what jobs they did not out source completely out of the country, they hired illegal immagrants who come into the country in their companies and as domestics in their homes...anybody but few US citizens as possible.  This is why prior adminsitration could do nothing about it without offending their business friends who promised to "trickle down" the wealth, and who were now so ingrained(car companies, banks, etc) in the very fiber of the US, we had to bail them out from their own corruption to keep the country from completely failing, too keep unemployment from being 20 or even 30%.  Can you imagine if just he car companies would have failed?  but they were corrupt and so far gone in their corrupt ways they did even think twice about going to beg for money in three separate private jets......

the 'test town' for President Obama’s new law to privatize the police force
of local communities. Last night, the city council voted to disband our
sheriff’s department and to bring in a private security company to police
the town.

Interestingly, earlier in the day, the mayor when asked in an interview
about the privatization of our police department completely denied it and
said that would not be done with out a council meeting. Then that evening, a
council meeting was held in regards to that very thing. At the beginning of
this month, our local prison signed an agreement with the American Police
Force which is a subsidiary of a larger private security force that the U.S.
used in the Iraq war and Hurricane Katrina.

Yesterday, a convoy of twelve 'blacked out' Mercedes Benz SUV’s were brought
into town. They were already painted with Hardin’s colors and ‘Hardin Police
Force’ was already painted on them! Hardin’s sheriff’s department will no
longer be in operation after the month of October. During October, the
Sheriff’s Department is to train this new security force in all the
logistics of running the town of Hardin. If you go on the American Police
Force site, you might notice that the logo they use is actually a Russian
logo. I have been told that the man who came with this new security force as
the captain, has a thick Russian accent.

Earlier this month, in an interview in regards to this Hardin prison and the
training center that they are planning to build, we were told that seventy
five percent of the security officers that were to be trained would be
‘international’.

This private security force is already patrolling the town. They had several
people stopped yesterday. Also, it appears that they are building some type
of heavy duty gate at the entrances of our town.

In an interview, the American Police Force security has stated that they
will stay here one month to assess the population and then they will make
their permanent base here. They said they are scouting out thirty towns in
the U.S. but that Hardin is the first. Also, President Obama has authorized
and signed a bill for full government funding of the privatization of the
police departments throughout the U.S. By the end of October, it is their
plan to have all major cities locked down!

I am also told by a reliable source that today one of the managers at a
local business in Hardin was visited by this new private security force
which is now the new Hardin Police Department. He is an avid hunter and they
came to inform him that they had a list of all fire arms that he owned; this
includes all the residents of our town, and that he would need to take his
guns down to have them put a marking device on them.
Also, today, one of the main streets in Hardin was completely blocked off
and they have been setting up information booths where they are passing out
pamphlets with information on this new H1N1 shot.

Intercessors, I am not making up any of this information! You can go on the
internet and verify most of this information from KULR 8, MSNBC or Fox news.

Oh Tinka, I complete agree that we probaly should have tighter border controls.  Perhaps a happy medium between ours and that of Iraq, using those two examples as the extremes.  It is said that it is nearly impossible to smuggle in cigars, but we can't stop the flood of people and drugs at our borders.  However, would any of us be here if we had adopted your suggested policy from the beginning, being as this country as we know it was established by immigrants who just came over and took the land from the peoples they found here........while decaring the land basically unpopulated?  Once again, we should probably find happy medium.  BTW, just curious, Tinka, you are Native to the United States?  I am, and also a rare native Californian....hehehe!

I also agree, if you re read my post that these companies were failing because oftheir own corruption.  However, my point was that they were so critical to the baisc economy of the US that to allow them to fail completely would have taken the US(and a good portion of the world) with them.  That is what we need to fix.  You can't help that these companies are large and hire people, but at this point we do have a perfect right, having bailed them out at their request, to insist that they do business differently, clean up their corruption, etc.

That is why you close the boarders, send them home, let them fight and stand up to their own COUNTRIES political corruption, do their own work and LET THE UNITED STATES GIVE THE MONEY TO OUR OWN POOR PEOPLE THAT ARE OUR OWN FAMILYS FIRST.  THAT IS HOW THIS NATION SHOULD BE AS DIRECTED FROM BEGINNING. WE HAVE GIVEN MUCH TO THE OTHER COUNTRIES BUT CANNOT COMBAT ALL THEIR EVIL AND CORRUPTION TO THE TAKING AWAY OF OUR POOR. CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME FIRST. YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND THAT THEY TAKE AND SEND IT BACK HOME AND WE KEEP PAYING. AND YOU WONDER WHY WE HAVE POOR IN THIS COUNTRY??? Maybe all was not right in the beginning of our country but God led the people to a new land and provided his inspiration of how it should be established with the forefathers that believed and in God they Trusted.

My back ground is Slovenian and , but born here in the North. My back ground is strictly clannish for family, hard working and very patriotic for this country because I know the role it played Biblical. My mother was American Indian and English.  It was very hard for the  settlers coming over from across but they did what they had to become legal citizens and that should be the rules for everyone.

My husbands ancestors or family goes clear back to Italy where the Hebrew were dispersed at the scattering. It shows his family records in Historical place here in US. He is a wonderful man, also served in military, wonderful father, and quite good looking yet(smile). Of course I take care of him (laugh). I am lucky to have him. Looking forward to eternity with no jealous bones in my body. I have it all (smile) except what the political agenda of government took away what he worked for his whole life and me too as I worked by his side. It was millions! Our family is devestated but we have each other and trying to encourage our children to keep going all though the big business is corrupted I think now beyond repair. we have been on the inside of all and know the outcome of most agendas. We hope the Lord comes soon to stop all oppression and suffering.

Here is the problem, we as Christians must look at all humanity as Gods special and chosen. whether someone is Mexican or Japanese or Black or White they are all God's creation. The reason I started by saying "here is the problem" is because some Christians don't seem to understand their God given mandate to the human race. They fail to realize that none of what man is given is his, he is born by Gods grace into his or her lot in life. God is the one in control here and what seems perfectly reasonable or exceptable to the reasoning of man is not always the case. We must love and care for and provide for people and leave all else in the hands of God.
      In my travels the most important thing that I have learned is
(to be thankful for what I have) and secondly is to realize (I am not more worthey than others). Now more than ever I see the world in its entirety and in the prism of God being in control of everything and having the last word. I don't believe that man is in control of the ultimate outcome. It is for this reason that I believe in compassion and love and self denial are the precursor's for the true Christian.--------I have the fortunate privilege of traveling to Kenya this December 15-29 and I will look to see if Obama has a birth certificate there (just kidding about the birth certificate). But I am reminded as I travel to countries with high aids and poverty just how fortunate I am and how blessed and unworthy. I say that to say, how noble of a country that they should be sought after and that many people should want to come here. Never will this country suffer for taking care of those whether here legally or not, because God's blessing will be on them. Those people that are so tied up in the rhetoric of hate will find in the final analysis that the hate they have perpetrated will in the end come back on them.

I think we are seeing a misapplication of the "all are God's children" and "all are equal" concepts. A country is not a religion, nor is it humanity at large. It is more like a family with a house. Do you feel that it would be appropriate for anyone who wants to, to be able to enter your house and require you to give them everything you give your own family? If a poorer person than yourself were to break into your homes, would you then give them their meals, their education, pay for their healthcare, and give them room and board for the rest of their lives? No? Why not? Are you more equal than them? Do you and your family deserve your house and earnings more than they do? Aren't they God's children too?
