Buckwheat
« on: December 26, 2008, 03:49:02 PM »

Here's one I like a lot, but it's not often found outside of our Slavic communities.

2 cups of toasted buckwheat
4 cups of water
pinch of salt

Season to taste - today ours included:
garlic
onion
dill weed

Other days we've included curry powder and such and it's absolutely some of the tastiest cereal food around.

The toasted buckwheat in the states is significantly different from the toasted buckwheat you can buy at Pyatorachka.  You can cook the stuff from Pyatorachka with just some salt and it's delicious just as it is.

Edit - I'd included Cyrillic names, etc, and found that the characters came up as either question marks or smilies.  It made no sense to leave them in the post.
Edit #2 - Just noted the thread Emma started for misc interests - as well as the other categories.  Expect this should have gone there.  Please accept my apologies.

Have we stopped eating - or no more interest in food?
