400 years with the King James Version of the Bible
The King James Version of the Bible was published 1611, and is regarded as the most influential book ever published. We must thank God for that.
The king hired 47 scholars towards the end of 1604 to work on the translation. They would not get paid for the work, but the king ordered the bishops to give those men a priority when lucrative positions became vacant. The scholars were told to translate the text so that it would be in harmony with the doctrines of the Church of England, and they were not to take the teachings of the Puritans into any serious consideration in the wording of their translation.
Is it any wonder that other translations have seen the light of day later on, where the translators could base the text on the original manuscripts without having to take the doctrines of the [Catholic] Church of England into consideration?
